“This happened that the works of God might be displayed in him”
Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind – John 9:1-7
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
The opportunity – Jesus said that the works of God “might” be displayed. The name of the pool was Siloam, meaning “Sent” and this blind man was “sent” there by Jesus. If he had refused to go, if he had refused to grasp the opportunity he would not have been healed and the works of God would not have been displayed.
In your overwhelming suffering remember that He is Good, constantly. That he always has a plan of opportunity for you and for Him. Listen to His word in the pain and hurt of this life moment and trust whatever He says to you. When others tell you how sorry they are for your suffering remember that they haven’t seen the “opportunity” and that if they had they would only rejoice with you in what comes next.
