Do you remember the story of the flood and that after the waters had receded God placed a rainbow in the sky to remind us that He wouldn’t flood the earth again. Well maybe your memory isn’t as accurate as you think!
Gen 9:13-16 I set my rainbow in the cloud. And it shall be a token of a covenant between Me and the earth.
And it shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud.
And the rainbow shall be in the cloud. And I will look upon it that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
Did you get that! “I will look upon it that I may remember”
God loves making covenants with people and they are always acts of love. The New Covenant promises us forgiveness of sin, the indwelling Spirit of God to enable us to serve Him in faith. Membership of a His body, a new family “the church”. Resurrection to eternal life and a place at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
God doesn’t need a diary, MS Outlook or smart phone diary. He knows everything but He loves to be reminded of His promises. So remind Him of promises when you pray!
His greatest reminder is “The Lords Supper”. We read the account in Luke and it says “Do this in remembrance of me” but the Greek is more powerful “Do this to remind me” or “Do this as my reminder”.
When we celebrate (yes its a celebration!) the Lords Supper we remember the death of our Lord, but its so much more. Its also a declaration of our present unity in the body, the church His new body. Looking forward it also reminds us that He will return and eat and drink with us in the new Kingdom.
